Cracked Old Pots

"For God who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made His light shine in our hearts.... But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us." (2Cor 4:6-7) A jar of clay? A pot. An image of earthly humanity. And at my age, my "pot" has been used and beat around. Which makes me what? A cracked old pot, not so much containing God's glory as helplessly hoping that's what will shine through and ooze out in a way that blesses my world.

Planes, plans and reality

Wow! The plans I make in that rarified space of air travel between one world and another today meet the crunch of real life where laundry and dishes must be done, mail opened and business paperwork addressed, and no one has been to the grocery store for two weeks. Where traffic and lines undermine every schedule; and conversations, in person or cyberspace, fill the margins reserved for the writing of profound thoughts.

Spa for the Soul: welcoming you to contemplative retreat

After four years of planning, renovating and waiting, we moved to that house on the rocky hillside that overlooks the sea in 2011. Our village, Gőkseki, is near Kaş, on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. It's an agrarian setting steeped in simplicity and natural beauty. The Lord has drawn us here, and set in our hearts to develop a spacious place of hospitable welcome to any who would desire to come for rest and the refreshment of solitude and prayer. We call it Spa for the Soul. Here exists a culture of listening and quiet being. Guests are welcome to stay from two or three days up to a month.

We are open for guests from October through May, whether in ones and twos for private retreats, writing or other artistic endeavor, or in groups for a more structured, directed experience. June-September finds us in Sequim, Washington (USA) where we re-charge through rest, fellowship, study, and time with our kids and grandkids and long-time friends and mentors.
